I AM READY FOR SPRING, FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES TO EAT ( OH MY ). IN THE SPRING OF 2008 MY WIFE AND I ROTO-TILLED our ENTIRE BACK YARD . WE DON’T HAVE A LARGE YARD , ABOUT 80FT BY 100FT. WE FEEL IT IS JUST ABOUT THE RIGHT SIZE FOR A VEGETABLE GARDEN. OUR SIDE YARDS CONSIST OF FRUIT TREES, RED RASBERRIES AND AN ASPARAGUS BED.
TODAY WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST ORDER OF GARDEN SEEDS. THESE WE ORDERED FROM “HIGH MOWING SEEDS” http://www.highmowingseeds.com/ . FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTED WE ARE GOING TO TRY:CRIMSON SPRINTER SLICING TOMATOES,PMR DELICIOUS 51 MELONS,PARTHENON F1 HYBRID ZUCCHINI,KING OF THE NORTH PEPPERS,BLUE LAKE POLE BEANS,MARKETMORE 76 CUCUMBERS, AND KESTREL F1 HYBRID BEETS TO START WITH.
LAST YEAR WE HAD OVER SIXTY TOMATO PLANTS AND, THEY ALL DID WELL. WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE ABOUT THE SAME THIS YEAR. I AM HOPING TO GROW SIX DIFFERENT VARIETIES (HEIRlOOM ). I NEED TO PICK 5 MORE VARIETIES AND GET THEM ORDERED. IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS DON’T BE BASHFUL, SPEAK UP.
What do you do with so many tomatoes?
ReplyDeleteWe have an apple and a pear, and did have a plum until it died. The weather here is milder by far than where you are, but extremely wet in winter and extremely dry in summer.
TOMATOES: ATE THEM,GAVE THEM AWAY, CANNED THEM. ACTUALLY, WE ENDED UP WITH 44 QUARTS AND 14 PINTS. SO FAR THIS WINTER WE HAVE USED ABOUT HALF OF THE CANNED TOMATOES.. AS A MATTER OF FACT YESTERDAY WE MADE; CHILI SPAGHETTI SAUCE AND BLACK BEAN SALSA. IN A FUTURE POST I WILL DIVULGE "MY SECRET" FOR PERFECT CHILI..
ReplyDeleteWe would love to have some of your tomatoes too!!
