I just signed up and printed off several two for one restaurant coupons for Lancaster,Ohio. Will be trying one out for lunch at the local
1348 Ety Road

I have never done a post like this before but I do like to eat and save money. When I signed up I didn’t have to give a credit card number either. I have found those “free trials” usually want your credit card number and I won’t do that.
Yesterday I took a quick trip to Old Mans’s Cave Campground and the State Park dining lodge pool. There were thunderstorms around so I didn’t expect many swimmers and I wanted to see what the campground looked like after the holiday weekend..I really like the hocking hills area and feel fortunate that Lancaster is in relatively close proximity.
JUDGE FOR YOURSELF BUT THIS IS WHERE I WILL BE DOING SOME CAMPING AND SWIMMING THIS SUMMER.
The pool is open Memorial Day thru Labor Day and the hours are 11:00 am till 7:00 pm weather permitting
Daily individual passes are: Adults $3.50,Children $3.00 under 3yrs old free and 10% discount for Golden Buckeye card holders (that is me).. Seasonal passes are also available. This is what I was hoping to see::
Next I checked out the Campground.
I stopped by the camp office (740) 385-6841 and had a chat with a very helpful Melissa. “ There are 172 campsites at the campground and over the holiday weekend they were mostly full. For the following weekend there were still 36 sites available . So it is best to make reservations ahead of time.”
On Tuesday the day I drove thru the campground I think there were only about a dozen campers. That is my kind of camping.
One of the volunteers camping in the park. A big thanks to all volunteers.
The “old” shower rooms and restrooms…I thought everything looked “pristine” which is pretty good after a busy weekend.
Left the campground and made the “mandatory”stop at Grandma Faye’s
But I waited till I got home to make some of my famous CAMP COFFEE on the old Coleman stove..
That’s all for today folks Joe Todd

First let me tell you it is HOT in Lancaster,Ohio AccuWeather says Hi of 88 degrees Real Feel 93 degrees. I won’t need a sauna today because I’ve already had one…
I cleaned the shed out yesterday and today it comes down.. You have to have the right tool for the Job. A reciprocating saw is commonly assigned to a type of saw used in construction and demolition work.Pictured below is a SAWZALL
This is my sawzall that I bought last year to build my deck. What a great tool.
THE SHED COMES DOWN..
I cut the shed into four sections so will be easier to haul away.
SITE IS READY FOR NEW SHED
As I have mentioned before we have Teddy Bears, Pictures of Teddy Bears everywhere. That particular wooden cutout of a Teddy Bear came from the local Shoney's restaurant before it went out of business.
THE NEW SHED
I wonder how many screws etc. are in that plastic parts bag????
One major problem was my old friend the Paper wasp Wasps, hornets and yellowjackets are more dangerous and unpredictable than honey bees and should be treated with respect. DUH…
Well I am cooled off now. I guess one can blog about most anything. I bet you can hardly wait to see the new shed being put together.. another day or the way I sometime procrastinate could be weeks..
JOE TODD
I have lived in Ohio my entire life and this was my first trip to New Straitsville (about one hour from my home town Lancaster Ohio) and the MOONSHINE FESTIVAL MAY 21-25TH
In the 1930's. New Straitsville was known from New York to California and even places over seas as "The Wet Capitol of Ohio." Today there is no reason to be thirsty in New Straitsville
Sometimes when you visit a new place you learn a little history and get to see some unexpected scenery. Robinson’s Cave, Coal, Mine Fires, Founding of U.M.W.A. Union, and an old time Soda Fountain
The cave is actually a sandstone outcropping common in the unglaciated region of Ohio. It is named after Seth Robinson the man who owned this property and operated a mine in the 1880’s. The cave was used as a secret meeting place for coal miners in the 1880’s. In 1884 Chris Evans originally from England led the regions miners in the historic hocking valley coal strike. During the strike it is believed that angry miners met at the cave before soaking loaded coal cars with kerosene setting them afire and pushing them into the mines
The event actually turned into a tourist attraction..
This action lit the worlds largest underground mine fire which burned thousands of acres..In 1889 Evans was elected executive secretary of the American Federation of Labor (A.F.of L.)
NOT A DISGRUNTLED COAL MINER,BUT SHE IS THIRSTY..
So we end the trip to New Straitsville with a stop at the “soda fountain” for some cool lemonade and a couple B.L.T’s.
This is the trail we didn’t take
Sometimes one needs to stay off the “Road Less Traveled”
We had frost Monday and Tuesday night and had to cover most plants in the garden ( what a pain ) Fortunately we didn’t loose any plants. The temperature in Lancaster, Ohio today is suppose to get up to 80 degrees. All I can say is “that is Ohio weather for you.” Project for next few days; clean garage, tear down and get rid of old metal storage shed, and put together new 8x10 shed. OOPS just got a phone call, Dick J. wants to go golfing . Probably Valley View Golf Club. Valley View Golf Club is located in Fairfield County, Lancaster, OH, an area that is rich in history. The golf course was designed in 1956, using the natural terrain. It was built over the first road constructed in Ohio, and a monument still stands to mark the place today.
I do know if I don’t get off the computer nothing is going to get done. Hope everyone has a great day.
As a side note the Wednesday meeting of the Common sense club has been canceled. Bros. An Gree will be in court today and most members of the club will be there to offer there support.
A cool cloudy Saturday morning in Lancaster, Ohio May 16th 2009 and it is off to the Lancaster Farmers Market plus side trips to some local “Flower Emporiums.” For the Farmers Market they have blocked off N. Broad Street where it intersects with Main St.

I had been looking for a BOSTON FERN Nephrolepis exaltata Bostoniensis and the one at Schmelzer’s saved me $8.00 over a local competitor and was of better quality. Made me happy…
Now it’s time to hang out on the deck and enjoy quality time in my back yard.
