THE OLD SWIMMING HOLE IN THE HOCKING HILLS THIRTY MILES FROM LANCASTER,OHIO

Yesterday I took a quick trip to Old Mans’s Cave Campground and the State Park dining lodge pool. There were thunderstorms around so I didn’t expect many swimmers and I wanted to see what the campground looked like after the holiday weekend..I really like the hocking hills area and feel fortunate that Lancaster is in relatively close proximity.

JUDGE FOR YOURSELF BUT THIS IS WHERE I WILL BE DOING SOME CAMPING AND SWIMMING THIS SUMMER.

The pool is open Memorial Day  thru Labor Day and the hours are 11:00 am till 7:00 pm weather permitting

Daily individual passes are: Adults $3.50,Children $3.00 under 3yrs old free and 10% discount for Golden Buckeye card holders (that is me).. Seasonal passes are also available. This is what I was hoping to see::

Bikini Maybe next time (LOL)

Next I checked out the Campground.100_1898

I stopped by the camp office (740) 385-6841 and had a chat with a very helpful Melissa. “ There are 172 campsites at the campground and over the holiday weekend they were mostly full. For the following weekend there were still 36 sites available . So it is best to make reservations ahead of time.”

100_1893  On Tuesday the day I drove thru the campground I think there were only about a dozen campers. That is my kind of camping.

The “old” shower rooms and restrooms…I thought everything looked “pristine” which is pretty good after a busy weekend.

100_1899 Left the campground and made the “mandatory”stop at Grandma Faye’s

But I waited till I got home to make some of my famous CAMP COFFEE on the old Coleman stove..

  1. I LOVE Grandma Fayes. Just about anything you forgot while camping in the Hills can be found here. Not forgetful? A stop for some yummy ice cream should still be in order. It's not soft serve like what you find at many little stops. Honest to goodness ice cream.

    Thanks for the post.

PS I like the new front page picture too.

  2. Oh ... Old Mans’s Cave Campground looks wonderful ... really beautiful. I can't wait to start camping this year. Typically we stay in nice campgrounds, like the one you talked about, but this year we're going to do some primitive camping. :)

    Great photos! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Trent take Rt. 664 to oldmans cave campground and stop at the check in station to pay daily fee. The swimming pool is just down the road at the dining lodge area

  7. Thank you for this! We're taking our three kids down to Hocking Hills soon and wanted to have a nice place to cool off for a few hours after some hiking. This pool looks great! So glad you gave a great review complete with pictures. Thanks!
