Lowell Altvater, 80 of Sandusky,Ohio thought he saw a rat in his barn and fired his shotgun at it. It turned out to be his wife's hat, which she was wearing. Everyone was ok and Lowell got a new pair of glasses.(Columbus Dispatch, Nov95)

In 1926 at The Ohio State University Maudine Ormsby was nominated and elected homecoming queen. Only problem Maudine Ormsby was a cow.

100_2801

Wrap your mind around the fact; we now have “Automated laser-guided milking machines”.

100_2802

Ok I will answer the question you have all been asking yourselves; did Maudine Ormsby (the cow) get to go to the homecoming dance? No she didn’t because of her size she was banned to the barn. Maybe that is how the term “Barn Dance” came into existence.

Well after hanging out in the “Fields” of Ohio I am getting a little hungry. Sooo:

Golf—an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle. –unknown

GOLF ROAD TRIP NEAR LANCASTER,OHIO

ROAD TRIP

The purpose of this road trip is two fold One, to play 9 holes of golf and Two,find golf balls. Time and Place: Windy Hills near Lancaster,Ohio:::: Monday (chance to find more golf balls after a weekend)

#1

I am a little concerned: am I getting to old to play golf ? I have perfect eyesight and can see where the ball goes but then I can’t remember where it is.

SCENERY1

Looks like a storm is rolling in. This could be the game of my Life. G.O.L.F. Gentleman. Only. Ladies. Forbidden.

SCENERY2

The problem with my golf game is L.O.F.T.  LACK. OF. FRICKING. TALENT. Getting ready to head up that gulley to find golf balls.

scene3

Nine holes of golf with cart, hot dog, coke $20.00. I found about fifty usable golf balls @ .50 cents each =$25.00. Using this kind of math  I have been able to convince my wife Linda that I can afford to play golf. LOL

DSCN0803 Click on picture for a short Windy Hills Golf Video. I would like to leave you with this thought: “It takes longer to learn to be a good golfer than it does to become a brain surgeon. On the other hand, you don’t get to ride around on a cart, drink beer, eat hot dogs and fart if you are performing Brain Surgery !!!!”

This is not about Medicine Hat. Cape Spear. Come By Chance, Joe Batt's Arm, Heart's Content. Hearts' Desire, or Starvation Cove.IT IS ABOUT BRUCE MINES ONTARIO CANADA

The baseball glove was invented in Canada in 1883 but not in Bruce Mines.

Project24

The area was named after James Bruce, the Governor General of Canada appointed in 1846.

BRUCE2

Canada's largest city is Toronto located on Lake Ontario Not Bruce Mines which is located on the north shore of Lake Huron but both are located in the province of Ontario.

bruce3

  • Canada is the home of many great inventions, including: basketball, the electric light bulb, the electric range, the electron microscope, standard time, the television, the telephone, and the zipper. So says the internet. Sorry about that Mr. Edison and Mr. Bell

LUNCH CONSISTED OF :a dish consisting of French fries covered with brown gravy . Poutine is a diner staple which originated in Quebec and can now be found across Canada (Just add the cheese curds). Also, I had the best apple pie I have ever eaten . (Sorry wife) For $15.00 Canadian you can buy a whole pie.

    bruce9

Saturday mail delivery in Canada was eliminated by Canada Post on February 1, 1969.(Canada is ahead on this but I think we may soon catch up).

    CLOUDS OVER LANCASTER,OHIO

It is a wired world in Lancaster,Ohio and we do sometimes have neat skies and clouds.

    100_2749

Or is it a weird world? Have you every had a cloud direct a spray of water at you then disappear? Tom D'Ercole 1975, in Oyster Bay, New York.

    Project24

Sometimes a cumulus cloud will pass over a town and rain down dead insects. This happened in Hutchinson, Minnesota as reported in 1932 issue of Science.

    100_2752

Same sky different perspective. Sometimes clouds will rain down seeds. This happened in Macerata, Italy 1897. The seeds came from a tree found only in central Africa and the Antilles.

    100_2753

Sometimes in drought conditions irate farmers have seen small planes fly into clouds eject “chemicals” and then watch the rain clouds just disappear.A sinister conspiracy.

    100_2756

I wonder why they run a power line right thru a tree. Maybe to make it easier for the squirrels. (not really the case but it looks like it). It started in the 1940’s, cigar shaped clouds or cigar or saucer shapes in clouds. The aliens have arrived.

    100_2755

That’s what the sky looks like from the perspective of a corn tassel. Now I will tell you what is strange, all the above pictures were taken in my backyard in August in Ohio. We just don’t get clear blue skies like that with white puffy clouds in the middle of summer.

So I think I will go golfing

CHANGE THE WORLD WEDNESDAY TIME TO START COMPOSTING

    COMPOST

You can add finished compost to your garden about 2-4 weeks before you plant.

Almost anything  that was living at one time is great for compost bins (think plant life not animal) No fats, pet droppings etc.

Think sun for that compost bin 120 and 160 degrees is best

Grass clippings for nitrogen and straw for carbon.

Coffee grounds and worms go together plus all those vegetable table scraps

Paper sure but shred it first.

Think in 3’s  3ftx3ftx3ft size wise and turn every couple weeks to aerate your pile.

A FEW FACTS ABOUT WATER SINCE THIS IS WATERY WEDNESDAY.

    1. Aristotle noted that a glass of hot water will freeze before a glass of cold water.

2.Water needs nucleation to freeze. At  below -135 °C, it becomes "glassy water," a solid with no crystal structure.

FRENCH RIVER,Rivière des Français' ONTARIO,CANADA THE PERFECT GETAWAY

    100_2666

    100_2667

A river in Central Ontario, Canada. It flows 110 kilometers (68 mi) from Lake Nipissing west to Georgian Bay

    FRENCHRIVERMAP

The River flows through typical Canadian Shield country, in many places exposing rugged glaciated rock.

I have driven over the French River on Hwy 69 probably a hundred times and now I know what things look like from a river perspective.

    100_2549

    100_2551

    100_2544

Highway bridge,The green pedestrian bridge in background, and lastly the railroad bridge. I can hear the sound of a train in the distance.

We stayed at a Ridgewood Cottage which is located on Dry Pine Bay one of the first bays east of Hwy 69.

The Ojibwa named this the "French River" because it became associated with French explorers of the 17th century.

Yes we did catch some fish:
