WAHKEENA NATURE PRESERVE IN THE HOCKING HILLS NEAR LANCASTER,OHIO
This is a Scenic Sunday Post Click on this link and discover the world.
Wahkeena Preserve
2200 Pump Station Road
Sugar Grove, OH 43155 Sometimes one misses what is closest to home. This was my first time to visit Wahkeena.
Several Hiking Trails and a Nature Center
My kind of place but guess who lives in the quiet area.
Next a stop inside the Nature Center
In closing I would like to mention two things:
1. To learn a little more about Wahkeena check out BEING A HOMETOWN TOURIST BY Kathy Kirk.
2. With the government cutbacks Wahkeena could use our help. If you're interested in helping support the Wahkeena Nature Preserve on a local or personal level, you can contact Mr. Shisler at 740-746-8695 or 1-800-297-1883 (toll free). Mr. Shisler is the naturalist for Wahkeena.
What I like to do best is take a nap out in the woods and this is the spot. (other than eating)
Every time I drive by the sign for the Preserve I think I should check it out but never have. What a pretty place. Will just have to check it out for sure now.
ReplyDeleteNo golf today Joe.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteYou have a very interesting blog here! Wow- what a beautiful place our world is!! :) I enjoyed seeing all your pictures in your most recent blogs!
Thanks, too, for your visit to me at Junie's Place today. I always appreciate new ppl stopping by.

Wahkeena post I must say. Thank you.:)
ReplyDeleteThis is another place that I wish was near me. I could get happily lost there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful peace.
ReplyDeleteThe little owl reminds me of my first up-close sight of a little rescued screech owl at a local event. I was charmed by his *blink*blink*blink* and stood watching him for some time until his keeper told me that he was doing that because he was stressed.
Distressed and sorry, I moved away.
Very nice tour...thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteSharon
p.s. I took the photo for my header shot while visiting the Dallas Arboretum.
Very nice post. And so interesting about how easy it is to miss opportunities near home. We lived in Lane County Oregon for 30 years plus staying here for three or four months every summer since we started full-time RVing -- and we still find beautiful places here that we've never taken time to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful pictures and the interesting train-ofo-thought.
Thanks for the virtual tour of this lovely preserve. These are lovely mosaics ;--)

ReplyDeleteJoe, that looks like a beautiful place for a hike! And so very true... we all tend to forget the wonders that are in our own "backyards"!
