In closing I would like to mention two things:

1. To learn a little more about Wahkeena check out  BEING A HOMETOWN TOURIST BY Kathy Kirk.

2. With the government cutbacks Wahkeena could use our help. If you're interested in helping support the Wahkeena Nature Preserve on a local or personal level, you can contact Mr. Shisler at 740-746-8695 or 1-800-297-1883 (toll free). Mr. Shisler is the naturalist for Wahkeena.

What I like to do best is take a nap out in the woods and this is the spot. (other than eating)

  1. Every time I drive by the sign for the Preserve I think I should check it out but never have. What a pretty place. Will just have to check it out for sure now.
    No golf today Joe.

  5. Beautiful, beautiful peace.

The little owl reminds me of my first up-close sight of a little rescued screech owl at a local event. I was charmed by his *blink*blink*blink* and stood watching him for some time until his keeper told me that he was doing that because he was stressed.
Distressed and sorry, I moved away.

  7. Very nice post. And so interesting about how easy it is to miss opportunities near home. We lived in Lane County Oregon for 30 years plus staying here for three or four months every summer since we started full-time RVing -- and we still find beautiful places here that we've never taken time to see.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures and the interesting train-ofo-thought.

  18. Joe, that looks like a beautiful place for a hike! And so very true... we all tend to forget the wonders that are in our own "backyards"!

Thanks for your comments on my blog (and Tony Letts). They always make me laugh. :)
