Carve your name on the wall of a sandstone gorge and have the gorge named after you. That is what happened to W.J. Conkle
Conkle's Hollow is situated off S.R. 374 on Big Pine Road in the Hocking Hills area of S.E, Ohio.
The photos above are taken from the “Rim Trail” which is on top of the cliffs and circles the gorge. Vertical cliffs that rise over 200 feet and 300 feet from cliff to cliff. I would not recommend this trail for young children for one must use extreme caution when hiking this area. For a trail map CLICK.
Have I ever mentioned how fortunate I am to have such a great “hiking partner.” One winter while hiking the rim trail my “hiking partner” slipped and fell in the snow. I grabbed the hood of her coat and saved the day. (what a guy)
Top left photo looks down into the gorge from the rim trail. Bottom left shows the length of the gorge. The bottom two photos shows the “picnic area” where we finished the hike with picnic lunch. Fall in Ohio sure can be beautiful.
Autumn days are here again!
In autumn when the trees are brown
The little leaves come tumbling down
They do not make the slightest sound
But lie so quietly on the ground
Until the wind comes puffing by
And blows them off towards the sky.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you,
and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop away from you
like the leaves of Autumn.
Fall poem by John Muir
Ted R. is still on the trail trudging thru the leaves. Takes him a little longer because of his short legs. When he catches up I’m sure he would say, “Thanks for stopping by.”
Great photos! I'm hoping to get back to walking, now hubby's back is better!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting My Muskoka !
Beautiful photos of different colors in nature..
ReplyDeleteYou've mentioned how important it is to have someone with you while hiking. Even without someone else, it's important for someone to know where you are. I've been in a few dangerous situations even on my easy trails.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a wonderful time for hiking isn't it
