SKIES OVER CHESTNUT RIDGE METRO PARK (FOR SKY WATCH FRIDAY)

We will head back to Chestnut Ridge for this SKY Watch Fridayskywatchlogo Only about 20 minutes drive from my home in Lancaster,Ohio I have found a great place to hike and view the sky.

columbus Chestnut Ridge Metro Park rises more than 150 feet—reaching an elevation above sea level of 1,050 feet. The above photo shows the skyline of Columbus, Ohio. (Photo was taken from an overlook on the trail)

Now on the way to the metro park the skies had me a little worried:

Fortunately, many Ohio Farmers have already harvested their corn crop. As a matter of interest;  Ohio corn growers planted an estimated 100,000 more acres of corn in 2009 than they did last year.

Well the hike is about over but I think one more look at the sky through the trees is appropriate.

As the sun goes down on the ridge a few of the oak leaves are highlighted.

I particularly like the shot in the first montage which shows the blue breaks in the clouds together with the silhouette of the power pole. Nicely composed.

Lovely shots, thank you for sharing. Funny, I'm viewing your world from an altitude here of 3900 feet, and looking out my window at mountains that reach almost 9000 feet. It's wonderful, this traveling around the world on Skywatch!

Hey Joe, We enjoy hiking up a mountain also... When I know there are views to be seen---that hike UP is worth it. One time we did a NINE mille hike up and down a mountain. When we got to the top--the fire tower (where the view could be) was closed... I was really upset.... Not my favorite hike..

Joe I did not know there were so many places around Lancaster. I am still trying to figure out where the mill is ;-) No since of direction.

The bare trees are just beautiful! The transition of colors of the sky looks like winter is on its way!

Joe - beautiful skies as always. Wanted to thank you for the historical marker db link. We have always wanted to find something like that. When we were towing the big 5-wheel we couldn''t usually stop at them. It should be easier with our littler rig, bug it still is nice to be able to read more.

The sky behind the trees is not the actual sky it supposed to be.

Wonderful collection of skies. I usually get to see some of them from over here on the Erie north shore. Great SWF!

I like that view of the sky through the trees. I see a very similar view when I go hiking. It's one of the main reasons I go.
