Back to the Hocking Hills TAR HOLLOW STATE PARK near Lancaster,Ohio
Down the road To Tar Hollow past the ranger station and now we are at the spillway for the dam.
Sunlight on the dam and some stormy skies. How about a swim at the beach?
Might be a little cold for a swim. The stream right bottom carries water from the spillway. Ok, you have waited long enough, what is behind the dam?
Keeping with my theme of “lack of water” for Watery Wednesday the lake at Tar Hollow has been drained. In talking to the ranger I was told the entire beach area is being redone and improved. In lowering the level of the lake there was a problem with the “gate” that controls the water level, hence the whole lake was drained. (THIS WAS NEWS TO ME
So for next season there is going to be a completely redone beach and swimming area which sounds real good for MY WORLD
For today I’ll just do some climbing and
I will follow the BLUE BLAZES on the Buckeye Trail
Linda & I say Merry Christmas and thanks for stopping by.
Interesting to see the lake's bottom. Once restored it must be a wonderful place to relax next summer.
ReplyDeleteAnother great set of photos, Joe! What a great park! Looks like a great place to spend time in the summer!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Sylvia
A great place.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
Always enjoyed your tours. So same time next week then?
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, Looks like you had a big surprise when you got to the state park... No water in the lake, huh?????
ReplyDeleteOur state park did the same thing here a year or so ago. They were re-doing the old bridge ---so they drained the lake for awhile. It looked just like yours does!!!!! Surprise!!! BUT--now that the bridge is comopleted, it is all back to normal and looks great.
Tar Hollow looks like a neat place to hike also. We'll be there soon.

Interesting pictures. It will be nice to see it back in its fill glory.
ReplyDeleteGreat collage of pictures, but I like the stormy sky best. I invite you to come see my snowy airport. - Margy
ReplyDeletebeautiful park. I love the stormy sky shots.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessin, with the water at its current level, the prohibition against flotation devices wouldn't present too great a problem...? :-P
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, great photos, but that 'sunlight on the dam' is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's always a surprise to expect to see a body of water and find the water all gone! I remember visiting Washington, D.C. one year, and the Tidal Basin was empty! Your picture of sunshine hitting the dam is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteJoe: Hope that wasn't one of your fishing lakes that is unless you fish a lake downstream of this one. That will certainly hurt the lake fish population for a while.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming back and answering my question!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the river picture in your header. Reminds me of the Namekagon in Northern Wisconsin.
Wow - love that last pic, Joe - I'd follow that path, too...
ReplyDeleteHow strange to just empty a lake! Not be obtuse but what the heck do they do with all that water?
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the state park. I enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteI like your tour and photos of Tar Hollow State Park. This was a very interesting 'waterless' Watery Wednesday post! At least you'll have a wonderful new beach to look forward to next summer.
ReplyDeleteYep, that is a pretty empty lake. Hopefully it will fill back up for summer. It needed cleaned but it is too bad the gate stuck.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting photos. Hope there will come more water soon. Have a nice x-mas
ReplyDeleteA very informative post! I have never heard of a whole lake being drained! Seems strange! And love the photo of the water ambling under the bridge!
ReplyDeleteNice collection of photos and fun commentary. I love fall and you captured it well!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great looking park. And what a surprise to see the lake empty. Great set of photos.
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a lack of water. Those warning signs would keep me out, no matter how much was there. Thanks for an interesting post.
ReplyDeletetat pool of water attracts me
ReplyDeleteA smile from SJ =)
cool combination of post series.
ReplyDeleteMissing the lake
Wow, great selection of shots, very informative.

Hi again Joe - Thanks for the follow. And thanks for the questions. Your friend up north, Margy.
ReplyDeleteVery nice set of photos. I think I would've been in shock to get to the lake and find it missing. :)
ReplyDeleteWell Joe the lake certainly has a clean bottom! Thanks for the tour!
