MAKE SURE TO VISIT:
A VIEW FROM FORT MEIGS, SEE THE FISHERMEN IN THE RIVER? (LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER.)
The month of March begins the walleye run up the Maumee River.”The famed "Muddy Maumee" has the largest watershed of any river in the entire Great Lakes system with more than 6,300 square miles of rich farmland draining into it.”
I USED TO LIVE IN PERRYSBURG,OHIO AND HAVE OFTEN HIKED BESIDE OR IN THE MAUMEE RIVER
WE WILL NOW HEAD “UP RIVER” TO GRAND RAPIDS,OHIO
FINALLY MADE IT TO GRAND RAPIDS
ALMOST NOON AND I’M STARTING TO GET HUNGRY BUT LET’S EXPLORE FIRST
ONE TIME MANY MANY YEARS AGO I DID THE HIKE FROM FARNSWORTH METROPARK TO GRAND RAPIDS AND BACK ABOUT 15 MILES.
THIS IS ALL PART OF TOLEDO METROPARKS. CHECK OUT The Canal Experience At Providence
LINDA ON THE TOWPATH WHAT A TROOPER. WE HAD BEEN UP SINCE 5:00 AM HAD LEFT LANCASTER,OHIO DRIVEN TO MAUMEE,OHIO,GONE TO GRANDPARENTS DAY AT THE “KIDS” SCHOOL AND NOW WE ARE EXPLORING THE MAUMEE RIVER & CANAL.
THE MAUMEE RIVER JUST TO LINDAS RIGHT
THE MULE CORRALL. THE DAY WE VISITED WE DIDN’T HAVE TO SHARE THE TOWPATH WITH THE MULES. AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY HAD JUST FINISHED PUTING THE CANAL BOAT IN THE WATER FOR THE SEASON. NOW I AM REALLY HUNGRY SO BACK TO GRAND RAPIDS TO EAT
LINDA HAD A TACO SALAD AND I HAD ONE OF THE BEST ITALIAN SUBS EVER. I REALLY LIKED THE SIGN ON THE WALL IN THE MENS RESTROOM: “ IF YOU SPRINKLE WHEN YOU TINKLE PLEASE BE NEAT AND CLEAN THE SEAT.” I’VE ALWAYS BEEN MORE OF AN “OUTSIDE” KINDA GUY. (YOU CAN THANK LINDA FOR THE NEXT PHOTO. THE ONE I WASN’T GOING TO SHOW.)

What beautiful photo's of a wonderful place.
Sounds like a busy day out - and a beautiful place to explore.
Janice.
Joe: Neat trip back to your old stomping (er/watering) ground. The weather looked really nice on that day. We have had a real roller coaster weather ride in NE Ohio.
What a fun tour. The narrative and photographs made me feel like I was along for the ride.
aloha,
i enjoyed your post today, especially about the canals, love the diner - whats the specials for today - i'm hungry
thanks for sharing your world today.
viva la france is going on in my sari blog today!
Every good outing requires a diner to enjoy! I would say this "muddy" river is VERY scenic! Beautiful, Joe!
Sure looks like a fast moving muddy river. So I guess you and Linda didn't hike the long trail. I'm sure glad because I'd be worn out and I'm hungry too.
Love the last shot!
Your world looks so interesting today.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Great post and pictures. The water looks muddy. Is it shallow? I don't see any traffic on the river which is zo unlike our rivers.
great series of photos!
Beautiful place, Wonderful landscapes.
Your canal pictures remind me of the C&O canal near Potomac, Maryland. I haven't been back there since May 2002. It would make a nice road trip one day! The General Store and Ludwig Mill look to be in fine shape.
Thanks for taking me long your excursion. Always enjoy them. :-)
I didn't know there were tow paths in your part of the country. Nice pictures -- except for the naughty one ;>)
so that's why the water's a funny colour!
Great post, Joe! Looks like a fast moving muddy river. Cool shots of teh canal.
The river looks swollen with lots of runoff!!
What a great outing you shared with us.
My WATERY WEDNESDAY...do stop by if you get a chance.
That is one of my favorite places on the BT in Ohio. Technically, the NCT cuts north before it gets to GR, but I'm lobbying hard to change that. Did you get to see all the great work the BTA crews have done to reclaim towpath trail from Napoleon to GR? I actually helped with some of that!
