Remembering the Old One Room School House This Holiday Season

HOLIDAYS NEAR LANCASTER,OHIO

For me, the holidays are a time for remembering days gone by; good times,places and family. Today’s post goes back to a time of the one room school house. I wonder how many years have passed since the school room rang with the laughter of children getting ready for their holidays?

I was on my way “somewhere else” when I saw this lonely building in the woods. I’m glad I stopped and took a few photos. Having the photos I needed a poem and I found this wonderful poem.. Aren’t the Holidays all about LOVE anyway?

Thanks for stopping by and I hope each and every one of you have a great holiday season.

John Greenleaf Whittier (December 17, 1807 – September 7, 1892) was an influential American Quaker poet and he is usually listed as one of the Fireside Poets.

“O Brother Man, fold to thy heart thy brother:
Where pity dwells, the peace of God is there;
To worship rightly is to love each other,
Each smile a hymn, each kindly word a prayer.”

  4. Properly sentimental for the Thanksgiving holiday...
    I think that One Room Schoolhouse site is absolutely great, although I'm sorry to see (I think I knew, years ago) that the schoolhouse near my childhood home is gone. My dad went there, and it was long abandoned when we used to pass it, walking on the country road, to our friends' house to play.

  8. That was just wonderful! What a "find". The building does seem lonely ... wish someone would restore it and let it shine again!

    Hope you and your family had a marvelous Thanksgiving! :)

    Thanks for the great photos and the memories. My mother attended a one room school house during the 1930s in West Texas :-)
