Marcellus Shale & Gas Drilling In Ohio

IN OHIO PARK LANDS??????????

JOETODDSAYS210 What got me interested in this was the news article concerning Gov. Kasich proposed drilling for natural gas “Fracking” in the Ohio State Park system( I really like our parks) For the past few days I have been researching what this might mean for the state of Ohio. Initially, I was aghast this might happen. Let me say I am all for “energy independence” and responsible “economic growth”. Lack of jobs, government deficits, and the recession sure hasn’t been a picnic. If you are at all interested watch this 60 minutes program. (There is some balance to the presentation.)

The statement I liked and my opinion at this time; “Promote natural gas but hold the industry accountable to higher standards.”

Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp., a leading U.S. producer of natural gas and would probably be the company to take the lead in developing this natural resource. From what I have read this would be the best company for the job

“Kasich says Marcellus Shale could be ‘godsend’ for Ohio” John Kasich on Dec. 30 said natural gas drilling in a geological formation that stretches into Ohio could boost the state’s economy by attracting businesses and helping to put skilled workers back on the job.

‘FRACKING” CAN BE PRETTY SCARY. DO YOUR OWN GOOGLE//YOUTUBE SEARCHES AND SEE WHAT I MEAN. IF OHIO APPROVES THIS AND THE DRILLING GOES AHEAD WE JUST NEED TO PRAY IT IS DONE RIGHT WITH THE PROPER OVERSIGHT. AT LEAST MR. MUSTINE THE NEW HEAD OF THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES IS AN ORDAINED MINISTER. LOL

mypictr_Facebook As always thanks for stopping by. Sorry, I haven’t posted in awhile. I do have a couple stories in the “works” Recently, I did a post on Mott’s Military Museum (logo upper right sidebar) Well I liked the place so much I now volunteer their on Fridays 1:00 to 5:00. Mike the other volunteer in this time slot likes to travel as much as I do and has given me a lot of new ideas/places to visit.

  1. The fracking experience in Colorado has been really bad for property owners; wells drying up etc. It really effects the water table. I hope Ohio finds a good solution.

  3. It's an issue here too, to the east of you, at the northeast tip of the gray area on that map. I have not researched it, but the rumor mill says it'll ruin our water wells.
    If that's true, that's a real problem.

Holding the industry to a higher standard sounds reasonable to me, until I think of the Louisiana oil rig explosion. Government oversight isn't necessarily foolproof; once people see that there's an oversight division in government, they stop watching. "Oh, the government takes care of that..."
How would one enforce that higher standard. I'm just wondering. A bond wouldn't do the trick because the damage would have to be already done for that to kick in. I can feel myself becoming a little reactionary as I type this.

  4. I just do not know about this one Joe. I hate to see our parks destroyed and our water poisoned. There is good and bad in everything such as mining even. It could be very scary and I would want the EPA involved and the strictest guide lines enforced in Ohio. That Haliburton loop hole would have to be closed here in Ohio.
I noticed a lot of gas well storage wells in Clear Creek when we were hiking there. I wondered then if the state got the money from them or if the families retained the mineral rights?
Hope you had a good road trip.

    Hi Joe

Interesting subject that I must confess I know very little about??? Here in California we're just trying to keep from going bankrupted...gee I wonder how that happened? :-)

Take care and have a great week

  7. Well---each state has its problems... I'm sure that Gov. Kasich inherited a mess. We have a new Governor here in TN also ---and we are having our share of problems also.

Nobody wants the parks disturbed ---but sometimes, we have to think of the future, finding ways to be energy independent.. IF this would work, it will do a tremendous job to help your state and our country.

Thanks for reporting on this... I'm glad you are doing your research. We have to change the way we do things in this country --sooner rather than later.

    Have a good day.
    Betsy
