“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”John Muir
A couple months ago the best I could do was go to the mall and walk for 10-15 minutes and I was grateful to be able to do that. A couple days ago I returned to The Dawes Arboretum for a 4 mile walk. I will share with you a few photos from that walk and some quotes from John Muir.
The Arboretum now covers nearly 1,800 acres and includes eight miles of hiking trails and a four-mile Auto Tour.
I met a few friends along the way.
“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”
Dawes is located 35 miles east of Columbus, Ohio, four miles north of Interstate 70 on Rt. 13 and six miles south of downtown Newark.
“When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.”
“The power of imagination makes us infinite.”
“God has cared for these trees, saved them from drought, disease, avalanches, and a thousand tempests and floods. But he cannot save them from fools.”
“I never saw a discontented tree.”
Up hill from here LOL
“Another glorious day, the air as delicious to the lungs as nectar to the tongue.” .. “When you are told you may loose part of one lung it is a real attention getter.” Joe Todd
Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life.- Hermann Hesse
“The wonder is that we can see these trees and not wonder more.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
What did the tree learn from the earth .. to be able to talk with the sky? - Pablo Neruda
If you were sitting on that bench what would you be thinking?
“We have not inherited the world from our forefathers; rather we are borrowing it from our children.” Kashmiri proverb
“Approaching a tree we approach a sacred being who can teach us about love and about endless giving. She is one of millions of beings who provide our air, our homes, our fuel, our books. Working with the spirit of the tree can bring us renewed energy, powerful inspiration, deep communion.” Druid Tree Lore
“A tree never hits an automobile except in self-defense.” Joe Todd.. sure not a Frost or Muir LOL. In my life time I’ve been able plant 500 plus trees. That may be my most enduring legacy……………………………………………………..
