FYI::: A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shall not kill."

The Cades Cove Methodist Church was organized in the 1820s. The Methodist congregation, like that of the Missionary Baptists, was small.

Incredible shots, Joe. I think I would really enjoy a visit to this area. Love the Primitive Baptist Church.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe, for this post. I love the churches at Cades Cove. Glad you found my post on the Methodist Church.
ReplyDeleteDid you go over Rich Mountain Road? That first picture looks like it was from there. I have a blog post from there also: http://betsyfromtennessee.blogspot.com/2010/09/rich-mountain-drive.html

ReplyDeleteI do love the simple little old churches, and these are some good photos.
And thanks for asking. All is well here, and clearly it is with you too. I'm glad.
I've always loved this little church. Took photos of it probably 30 years ago, and I recall one monument in the cemetery that simply said "Mother."
ReplyDeleteVery nice looking small church. Nice shots.

ReplyDeleteWhat a quaint little church with so much history. Loved the jokes...too funny!
ReplyDeletethe jokes were cute. :) love that little old quaint church!
ReplyDeleteOh the humor to be found on church marquees and in bulletins! I've driven through Cades Cove but wasn't looking for churches at the time. Your first photo is just so descriptive for this area--the simple white church in among the trees from a distance. My grandparents and parents were Primitive Baptists from the Appalachains. I went with the Methodists as an adult. A little more live and let live. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful setting for this pretty little church!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the trip down memory lane with these great shots. It has been many years since my last visit to Cades Cove.
ReplyDeleteAs for the church bulletins...I'm still laughing! Those were awesome.
Thanks for participating this week!
