A Farwell To Fidel Castro and Hopefully a New Day For Cuba

Remember, before Fidel Castro we had Fulgencio Batista.  Batista suspended the 1940 Constitution and revoked most political liberties, including the right to strike. He then aligned with the wealthiest landowners who owned the largest sugar plantations, and presided over a stagnating economy that widened the gap between rich and poor Cubans. Batista's increasingly corrupt and repressive government then began to systematically profit from the exploitation of Cuba's commercial interests, by negotiating lucrative relationships with the American Mafia, who controlled the drug, gambling, and prostitution businesses in Havana, and with large US-based multinationals who were awarded lucrative contracts. Time marches on and Fidel Castro is no more..(time and history will be his judge as it is for all of us). I hope we continue to have better and better relations with Cuba and I hope for the very best for all their people. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the chance to visit Cuba but it does look like a beautiful country. 

     When I think of Cuba the first thing that comes to my mind is the Cuban Missile Crisis (Thanks Fidel) “The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the October Crisis (Spanish: Crisis de octubre), the Caribbean Crisis (Russian: Карибский кризис, Karibskij krizis), or the Missile Scare, was a 13-day (October 16–28, 1962) confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union concerning American ballistic missile deployment in Italy and Turkey with consequent Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba. Along with being televised worldwide, it was the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war.” ( I was only in high school at the time and I remember being really really scared.) It is my fervent wish/prayer the country is not on a return path to “times” like that.

The Pharmacist

A nice, calm, and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight
into his eyes, and said, “I would like to buy some cyanide.”

The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”
The lady replied, “I need it to poison my husband.”

The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he exclaimed, “Lord have mercy!

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back…….

I am sure some think the country is in the process of taking two steps forward and in some ways maybe we are for the next few years. Then, in my opinion we may face one catastrophe after another. Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964) was an American politician who served as the 31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. A Republican. He spent his life as a conservative denouncing big government, liberalism and federal intervention in economic affairs. Hoover was one of only three Presidents (along with William Howard Taft and Donald Trump) who had neither been elected to a national political office or governorship, nor served as military generals. Hoover also believed strongly in reducing government regulations. President Hoover tried to aid the economy with large-scale government infrastructure projects such as the Hoover Dam, and calls on industry to keep wages high. He approved the Smoot–Hawley Tariff, which sent foreign trade spiralling down. Hoover seldom mentioned civil rights while he was President. He opposed federal anti-lynching laws, and when lynchings occurred in the South, including one incident linked to his party's efforts to 'Republicanize' southern states, he offered only verbal condemnation. In 1929, he authorized the Mexican Repatriation program to help Mexican citizens return home. The program was largely a forced migration of approximately 500,000 people to Mexico. What Now??? Election Trump End Of The World…you name it

In these trying times one should remember::: "God doesn’t call the qualified but qualifies the called."  I've heard it said "A zebra doesn't change it's stripes." Well, men and women are not zebras and we do change. I know for a fact millions of men and women throughout history have had "spiritual awakenings" and have done wonderful things in their lives. In particular I like the conversion of Paul the Apostle. I am going to continue to pray, golf, and grow more tomatoes in season. "God grant me the serenity
