SKIES OVER THE ASYLUM

 A SKYWATCH FRIDAY POST skywatchlogo

“The Athens Lunatic Asylum was a mental hospital operational in Athens, Ohio from 1874 until 1993. During its operation, the hospital provided services to a variety of patients including Civil War veterans, children, and violent criminals suffering from various mental disabilities. It is best known as a site of hundreds of the infamous lobotomy procedure, as well as various supposed paranormal sightings. After the hospital's original structure closed, the state of Ohio acquired the property and renamed the complex and its surrounding grounds "The Ridges". “Thanks Wikipedia

HOLIDAY MAIL FOR HEROES

Attention all bloggers:: Go ahead and do your own post or a least put a link on your web site… Pass it on…………….

“Holiday Mail For Heroes is back for a fourth year! The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes will collect holiday cards from regular citizens all across the country and distribute them to service members, veterans, and their families. Many active service members must spend the holidays apart from their family. Give back this holiday season by sending a card to thank those who have given a great deal to their country.

Send cards to the address below, and please read the guidelines carefully!

Holiday Mail for Heroes
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD
20791-5456

All cards must be postmarked no later than Friday, December 10th. Cards postmarked after this date will unfortunately be returned to the sender. This deadline ensures enough time to sort and distribute cards before the holidays.

After the mailbox closes, the cards we received will be screened for hazardous materials by Pitney Bowes and then reviewed by Red Cross volunteers working around the country.”

Remembering the Old One Room School House This Holiday Season

HOLIDAYS NEAR LANCASTER,OHIO

For me, the holidays are a time for remembering days gone by; good times,places and family. Today’s post goes back to a time of the one room school house. I wonder how many years have passed since the school room rang with the laughter of children getting ready for their holidays?

I was on my way “somewhere else” when I saw this lonely building in the woods. I’m glad I stopped and took a few photos. Having the photos I needed a poem and I found this wonderful poem.. Aren’t the Holidays all about LOVE anyway?

Thanks for stopping by and I hope each and every one of you have a great holiday season.

John Greenleaf Whittier (December 17, 1807 – September 7, 1892) was an influential American Quaker poet and he is usually listed as one of the Fireside Poets.

“O Brother Man, fold to thy heart thy brother:
Where pity dwells, the peace of God is there;
To worship rightly is to love each other,
Each smile a hymn, each kindly word a prayer.”

A new wing is being added to the museum and is about two thirds done. The museum does not receive  outside funding for it’s operation. Funding is dependent on members dues and supporters donations. Take a second to go to The Motts Military Museum website to learn more.

Well, I certainly wasn’t able to show you everything not even a small percentage of all the great exhibits. See if you can answer these questions from the photos below;

framedcollageunknowns

1. Portrait of ???

2. Diorama of what battle ???

3.  Replica of Who’s house and why is it at the museum?

4. Is there a Higgins Boat at the museum?
