We then drove through Flagstaff on our way to The Cameron Trading Post which we used as a base camp to explore the south rim of the Grand Canyon

We have been in the car for awhile and are glad to arrive at our destination…

This is Navajo Country..

The Little Colorado River is a river in the U.S. state of Arizona, providing the principal drainage from the Painted Desert region. Together with its major tributary, the Puerco River, it drains an area of about 26,500 square miles

This walking bridge over the river is not open to the public and is actually owned by a pipeline company. Are you hungry yet???

All the Navajo rugs in this photo cost more than my house……………At this restaurant I was introduced to Navajo Fry Bread. Indian fry bread is tradition to the Navajo, and comes with a story of great pain and suffering. READ MORE

Red Rock Country, Sedona, RT. 89 ..First day travel from Phoenix Az. to The Cameron Trading Post,Just 30 minutes from the Grand Canyon National Park entrance. Leaving Columbus,Ohio and the clouds behind…..

No clouds in Phoenix…BUT..it is the monsoon season.. I didn’t even know they had a monsoon season in the West.. I now know what that means.LOL……………………………………………….. “The monsoon season is a showcase of dramatic weather that brings relief and danger. It suppresses the hot summer temperatures and resuscitates vegetation, but it also delivers intense rain, large hail, powerful winds, whirling dust, and a startlingly high number of lightning strikes.” READ MORE

What does Coconino mean?

For most of this trip we will be exploring The Colorado Plateau………..

“The Colorado Plateau is largely made up of deserts, with scattered areas of forests. In the southwest corner of the Colorado Plateau lies the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River. Much of the Plateau's landscape is related, in both appearance and geologic history, to the Grand Canyon. The nickname "Red Rock Country" suggests the brightly colored rock left bare to the view by dryness and erosion. Domes, hoodoos, fins, reefs, goblins, river narrows, natural bridges, and slot canyons are only some of the additional features typical of the Plateau.”

The Colorado Plateau has the greatest concentration of national parks in the United States. We will be visiting Grand Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park,  Mesa Verde National,Saguaro National Park

Well as far as this post goes it is about 1:00 Pm on July 11th 2012 Arizona time. (Day one of the WESTERN TRIP)..Next post I’ll try to make it to the Cameron Trading post and show a little of Sedona,Az. and the Oak Creek Canyon Drive.. but I do have a lot of pictures so we will see….LOL
