Asa built the house but he didn’t have four wives like Mr. Hemingway nor did he win the Nobel prize in literature.

“Don't you drink? I notice you speak slightingly of the bottle. I have drunk since I was fifteen and few things have given me more pleasure. When you work hard all day with your head and know you must work again the next day what else can change your ideas and make them run on a different plane like whisky? When you are cold and wet what else can warm you? Before an attack who can say anything that gives you the momentary well-being that rum does?... The only time it isn't good for you is when you write or when you fight. You have to do that cold. But it always helps my shooting. Modern life, too, is often a mechanical oppression and liquor is the only mechanical relief.” ERNEST HEMINGWAY

Mr. Hemingway being a large man need a large bed (not made at the time) This bed was specially built by joining to single beds

Next photo is a view (thru the trees) of the Key West Light House as seen from the veranda.

Mr. Hemingway did his writing from an old converted carriage house. The studio is where Papa Hemingway wrote some of his famous novels such as To Have and Have Not and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

The photo below shows the ‘expensive” for the time ($20,000—remember the house only cost $8000) pool Pauline wife #? had built while Mr. Hemingway was covering the Spanish Civil War probably with an “associate”.

DSC_0157 Papa Hemingway returned saw the pool and undertook a DIY project.Papa saw an old urinal waiting to be hauled away as trash in front of Sloppy Joe's ( his favorite neighborhood bar), he decided to take it home with him, proclaiming "Enough of my money went down that urinal!" He hauled it home, plopped it in the grass and topped it with a giant Spanish olive jar he found in Cuba.

DSC_0159DSC_0158

Loren our tour guide (above photo) said, “Pauline decided to prettify the fixture with decorative tiles. Rigged with a pump, water has since cascaded down the jar and into the reservoir (urinal), providing a perfect (and now world-famous) drinking fountain for the cats.”

DSC_0122 Now it is time for a “CAT NAP” hope you enjoyed the post.

An Irish Ghost Story for Halloween

An Irish Ghost Story for Halloween

DSC_0006

IRISH GHOST STORY
This event happened a while ago in Dublin, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it’ said to be true.
John Bradford, fogguy

a Dublin University student, was on the side of a lonely road hitchhiking on a very dark night in the midst of a mighty storm. He could see only a few feet in front of him. Suddenly, he saw a car

carfog

slowly coming towards him. The car stopped, and John, desperate for shelter, wrenched open the door and climbed in. He became aware that the engine was not running, and there was no one steering the vehicle. The car began moving. John looked at the road ahead and saw that the car was approaching a

foggybendroad

bend in the road. Terrified, he began to pray, begging for his life. Then, just before
the car hit the bend, a hand appeared out of nowhere through the window and turned the wheel. John, paralyzed
with terror, watched as the hand

ghosthand

stretched through the window, but never touched or harmed him. Shortly after,...

John saw the lights of a pub pubfog

appear down the road. Gathering his strength, he jumped out of the car and ran
to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started recounting the horrible experience. A silence settled on the pub. But when the patrons saw that he was sober and that his terror was genuine, they paid attention to his story. Then the door opened, and two people twopeoplefog

walked in from the dark and stormy night. Like John, they were soaked and out of breath. Looking around, they saw John sobbing mansobbing

at the bar. One turned to the other and said, “Look Paddy.....there's that bloomin’ idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!...!!!

DSC_0013

A short story for the rest of the post: EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD, I'VE ALWAYS HAD A FEAR OF SOMEONE UNDER MY BED AT NIGHT.SO I WENT TO A SHRINK AND TOLD HIM.
DSC_0016

'I've got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there's somebody under it. I'm scared. I think I'm going crazy.'

DSC_0018

Just put yourself in my hands for one year,' said the shrink.Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.

DSC_0014

How much do you charge? Eighty dollars per visit, replied the doctor.

DSC_0017

'I'll sleep on it,' I said

DSC_0020

Six months later the doctor met me on the street. 'Why didn't you come to see me about those fears you were having?' he asked.

DSC_0021

Well, Eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought myself a new car!

DSC_0023

Is that so! With a bit of an attitude he said, and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?

DSC_0022

He told me to cut the legs off the bed! - Ain't nobody under there now!!!

DSC_0025

DSC_0026

FORGET THE SHRINKS..  TALK TO A BARTENDER!..You have my friend Charlie and the internet to thank for that story..LOL

If the photo was better and maybe a little less hazy you could see Columbus,Ohio from this vantage point.
