We will investigate the Hemingway Home & Museum.
General admission is $13.00 for the tour. When I asked,is there was a senior citizen discount I was told, “no discounts we have to feed the cats.” Click on CATS to learn about “Snowball” and polydactyl cats. “One cat just leads to another.” ERNEST HEMINGWAY
Asa F. Tift Ernest Hemingway
Asa built the house but he didn’t have four wives like Mr. Hemingway nor did he win the Nobel prize in literature.
“Being against evil doesn't make you good.” E.H.
There are “A Lot” of pictures/photos on the walls
“No, that is the great fallacy: the wisdom of old men. They do not grow wise. They grow careful.” E.H. (I like this one)
“You can't get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.” E.H.
Probably pretty modern for it’s time
These two photos are not from the house/museum but from a favorite “Hang Out”
“Don't you drink? I notice you speak slightingly of the bottle. I have drunk since I was fifteen and few things have given me more pleasure. When you work hard all day with your head and know you must work again the next day what else can change your ideas and make them run on a different plane like whisky? When you are cold and wet what else can warm you? Before an attack who can say anything that gives you the momentary well-being that rum does?... The only time it isn't good for you is when you write or when you fight. You have to do that cold. But it always helps my shooting. Modern life, too, is often a mechanical oppression and liquor is the only mechanical relief.” ERNEST HEMINGWAY
Mr. Hemingway being a large man need a large bed (not made at the time) This bed was specially built by joining to single beds
Next photo is a view (thru the trees) of the Key West Light House as seen from the veranda.
Mr. Hemingway did his writing from an old converted carriage house. The studio is where Papa Hemingway wrote some of his famous novels such as To Have and Have Not and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

The photo below shows the ‘expensive” for the time ($20,000—remember the house only cost $8000) pool Pauline wife #? had built while Mr. Hemingway was covering the Spanish Civil War probably with an “associate”.
Papa Hemingway returned saw the pool and undertook a DIY project.Papa saw an old urinal waiting to be hauled away as trash in front of Sloppy Joe's ( his favorite neighborhood bar), he decided to take it home with him, proclaiming "Enough of my money went down that urinal!" He hauled it home, plopped it in the grass and topped it with a giant Spanish olive jar he found in Cuba.
Loren our tour guide (above photo) said, “Pauline decided to prettify the fixture with decorative tiles. Rigged with a pump, water has since cascaded down the jar and into the reservoir (urinal), providing a perfect (and now world-famous) drinking fountain for the cats.”
