Beans Toot Early and Toot Often.

MQTlogoa Something a little different for this post. This receipt came from a fellow we called “Bake Bean John.” Every time we would meet in church basements for anniversary meetings  or whatever John brought his “famous” beans. (and are they good)…

Return To Tar Hollow State Park. A Wandering Ohio Post

MQTlogoa Tar Hollow State Park. A Wandering Ohio Post

Map picture

December 2014 in Ohio… The cloudiest in ten years.. Well, yesterday 12/29/2014 the sun was out so what a great time to do a little wandering..

“Tar Hollow State Forest is Ohio's third largest state forest, encompassing just over 16,000 acres where Ross, Hocking and Vinton counties meet. It is the closest backpacking destination to the Columbus area. Like many other state forests, a state park lies in the middle of it. Tar Hollow State Park is not as developed as some of Ohio's other state parks, but does offer camping, picnic shelters, a 15-acre lake for fishing and swimming and a general store. Often overlooked by vacationers in favor of the nearby popular Hocking Hills, Tar Hollow State Park and Forest are a real treat for those seeking a destination small in crowds and big on nature.”   READ MORE

There was one camper in the whole park when I visited..

The showers and pit toilets are in different buildings and are clean…

DSC_0025 An area I was interested in was non electric walk in tent sites. I’m thinking early spring camping and I might have the whole area to myself. ( I am a bit of a recluse)

DSC_0018 This would be my spot. One can’t see the parking area and being at the top of the hill one does have cell phone Wi-Fi connectivity. ( If that’s important)..

DSC_0020 Restroom facilities are a little more primitive.

Water is available. I stepped on the foot pedal and check out the flowing water in the above photo.

Several camping shelters can be reserved and used for camping. My favorite spot is the Brush Ridge Fire Tower.( photo below)

“The Logan Trail, named for the famous Chief Logan of the Mingo Indian Tribe, is laid out in a distorted figure eight pattern with its north and south loops meeting at the Brush Ridge Fire Tower, plus a short side trail to a backpack camp.”

and back down..

I did have a really good hold on the rails.. LOL

The “Buckeye Trail” and the North Country Trail intersect the fire tower.

JOETODD I really don’t enjoy gray clouds and cold weather all that much, but give me a little sun and a little bit of warmth and I’m an “outside” kind of guy…

A Funny Monday Special from Australia "manyana"

MQTlogoa From my Australian/New Zealand friend “Whitesnakes”

julio

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was on UK television with British TV host Anne Diamond.

He used the word "manyana" (pronounced "man -yana").

Diamond asked him to explain what it meant.

He said that the term means:
"Maybe the job will be done tomorrow;    Maybe the next day;
Maybe the day after that;     Or perhaps next week;    Next month;    Next year.    Who really cares?"

The host turned to Albert Yatapingu from the Gumbaingeri Tribe (aboriginal) who was also on the show.   She asked him if there was an equivalent term in his native language.

Eh" he replied. "In Australia we don't have a word to describe that degree of urgency."
